Lest you imagine from this headline that Kristen Wiig has suddenly become some weirdo snoop who goes cracking open the inner thoughts of teenagers, she’s really just part of the cast for Marielle Heller’s new coming-of-age tale **Diary Of A Teenage Girl{ =nofollow}, which also features Alexander Skarsgard and M.I. High’s Bel Powley.

The script, which Heller has workshopped through the Sundance Institute’s screenwriting and directing labs, is based on Phoebe Gloeckner’s eponymous graphic novel and follows a teenage artist (Powley) in 1970s San Francisco who starts an affair with her mother’s boyfriend. Heller is cranking the cameras even now in San Francisco.

Though she’s had plenty of TV work (including, of course, The Bill), Powley has found most of her acclaim on the stage, appearing in productions at the Royal Court and on Broadway. She was part of the cast for last year’s Side By Side, but this will mark her biggest film role to date.

Wiig is on screens now in The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty, and has The Skeleton Twins, Nasty Baby and Welcome To Me awaiting release this year. She’s also back as part of the voice cast for How To Train Your Dragon 2, due out July 4. Skarsgard has Hidden headed through post-production and is at work on The Giver. He’s also attached to play **Tarzan **for David Yates and Warner Bros.
