There are loads of movies about Father Christmas, but not many of them explore the days before he wore a red suit, hopped on a sleigh and started delivering presents to the children of the world. Yet A Boy Called Christmas is aiming to do just that, and is now shooting with a cast that includes Kristen Wiig, Jim Broadbent, Toby Jones, Zoe Colletti, Sally Hawkins, Michiel Huisman, Henry Lawfull, Rune Temte and Indica Watson.

Director Gil Kenan worked with Ol Parker to adapt the script from Matt Haig's bestseller, which featured illustrations by Chris Mould. The story follows an ordinary young boy called Nikolas, who sets out on an extraordinary adventure into the snowy north. He's in search of his father who in turn is on a quest to discover the fabled village of the elves, Elfhelm. Taking with him a headstrong reindeer called Blitzen and a loyal pet mouse, Nikolas soon meets his destiny in this magical, comic and endearing story that proves nothing is impossible...

The cameras are now rolling to kick off a shoot that will take in Lapland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and London, with Studiocanal handling the film here and in Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France and China. Netflix will handle it everywhere else, and we'd imagine this one will be arriving closer to the festive season.
