Disney has had some success finding new ways into its fairytale canon with films such as Maleficent and the upcoming Cruella. The Mouse House now has Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo working on a movie from the point of view of Cinderella's stepsisters.
According to Deadline, Wiig and Mumolo – who last brought us the wacky, wonderful Barb & Star Go To Vista Del Mar – are co-writing the script, but there is no information yet as to whether they'll appear in the film, and the plan is reportedly for younger performers to play the sisters.
As for the story? It's a fairy tale musical comedy that re-imagines the story to focus on Cinders' infamous evil stepsisters. Spanning their early childhood through the marriage of their universally beloved stepsister and beyond, we follow Anastasia and Drizella Tremaine as they struggle to uphold their family’s legacy.
With luck, there will be some Barb loopiness sneaking in here, and let's not forget that the duo were nominated for an Oscar on Bridesmaids.
