It's been a couple of years since we heard anything solid about Elizabeth Banks considering directing a reboot of the Charlie's Angels concept for Sony. But it appears she and the studio are shifting it into gear, particularly now the movie has a 2019 release date slotted in. Among the first names mooted for potential casting choices is Kristen Stewart.
Lupita Nyong'o is, according to Variety, also on the wish list, though of course it's all still at an early stage and there are no deals in place yet. Stewart would be a more surprising choice since she hasn't exactly jumped into blockbuster projects besides the Twilight series and 2012's Snow White And The Huntsman. She is, however, part of the cast for the upcoming high concept thriller Underwater, so perhaps she's looking to give the action thing a spin again.
Banks is looking to cast her angels, once again basing the idea on the 1970s and '80s show about a trio of private detectives who tackle tricky cases. In the US, at least, the film is scheduled to open on 7 June. Stewart has a few movies on the way, including JT Leroy, Lizzie and the aforementioned Underwater, none of which have confirmed UK release dates yet.
