The last time Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart shared the screen, we got the enjoyably gawksome chemistry of Adventureland. This time around, they’re set for a blend of stoner slacker attitude and action comedy in **American Ultra{ =nofollow}.

With a script by Chronicle writer and all-round Twitter nuisance Max Landis, Ultra follows unmotivated stoner Mike, who lives with his girlfriend Phoebe (Stewart) in a slow-moving, pokey small town.

Yet their quiet life is shaken up when Mike’s mysterious past comes roaring back to haunt him, and he finds himself the target of a government operation designed to wipe him from the face of the Earth. Time to stop toking and tool up…

“Simply put, American Ultra will be the most fun you can possibly have in a movie theater without the use of drugs, fireworks, or canola oil," says producer Anthony Bregman, clearly trying to sell this thing, which is no surprise since the rights will be hawked at the American Film Market.

Project X director Nima Nourizadeh is calling the shots for this one, and he’s set to kick off filming in April. Eisenberg has Night Moves and Richard Ayoade’s The Double set for release next, and he’ll be heard in animated sequel Rio 2, which lands here on April 4. Stewart has worked on C****amp X-Ray, Sils Maria and The Big Shoe and has just signed on to Tim Blake Nelson’s latest, Anesthesia.
