A sequel to animated hit Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs was guaranteed given the warm critical and box office reception to the first movie. But there haven’t been many details about the new film until now, with a casting notice about Kristen Schaal signing up finally bringing some fresh info.
Schaal, who has graduated from playing stalkery superfan Mel in Flight Of The Conchords and now regularly appears in movies and as a contributor on The Daily Show, is on board to voice an orang-utan in the new movie, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Given that we're hoping for the return of Steve the Monkey (Neil Patrick Harris), there would appear to be a wealth of primates on offer.
The film, called Cloudy 2: Revenge Of The Leftovers, apparently kicks off with Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) and his friends (including characters voiced by Anna Faris and Andy Samberg) forced to leave Swallow Falls after the giant food chaos of the first movie. But then the locals discover that sentient food beasts are overrunning the island and Flint is called back to save the day.
Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn are sharing the director’s chair for the film, which Sony plans to have in cinemas by February 2014.
