Amy Heckerling’s new comedy, Vamps, has added another cast member to its line-up, with Kristen Johnston joining the ensemble.

Vamps follows the misadventures of two “young” vampires (Alicia Silverstone and Krysten Ritter) who are content to enjoy the nightlife (because the day life would be a little dangerous, given their situation) of New York. But trouble strikes when they both fall in love and must make a choice about their futures.

Sigourney Weaver’s already aboard to play Cisserus, a matriarchal older vampire who will go to any lengths to protect her dynasty. According to Coming Soon, Johnston will dig out a posh British accent to play Mrs Van Helsing, an aristocratic type who doesn’t exactly trust her son’s new love interest. And with good reason: Stacey (Ritter) is the undead embodiment of everything she hates.

Johnston got her big break on US sitcom Third Rock From The Sun, but has had mostly small roles in movies. More recently, she’s cropped up on TV’s Ugly Betty and will shortly been seen in a guest role on the Jason Schwartzman/Zach Galifianakis/Ted Danson comedy drama series Bored to Death.

The movie kicks off shooting in Detroit next week.
