Kristen Bell Saves The Whales

You may remember that, not long ago, Hayden Panetierre got involved in saving dolphins from a Japanese cull. Now fellow petite blonde / Heroes alum Kristen Bell is going to go one better and save the Whales - at least on screen. Yes, she's joining John Krasinski and Drew Barrymore in Ken Kwapis' Whales.

It's all the story of three gray whales trapped under ice in the Arctic Circle who were the focus of a rescue effort at the height of the Cold War which was assisted by both the US and USSR. Barrymore plays a Greenpeace activist and Krasinski a small-town newspaper hack who team up; Bell will play a big-city reporter who "thinks her greatest assets are her looks" according to the Hollywood Reporter - and if we were being cynical we'd guess that means she'll either be delightfully insecure and turn out to be smarter than she realises, or a total beeyotch. Which one depends on whether Barrymore has a boyfriend, which will determine if Krasinski is her love interest or Bell's.

It's all based on Tom Rose's non-fiction book on the subject, and produced by Working Title for Universal. With casting now moving a little faster, hopefully we'll get to see this some time next year.
