Knowing Poster Shows Up Online

The poster for Alex Proyas’ high-concept dark thriller, Knowing, has shown up online over at AICN – and not only is it very, very cool, but it also suggests that the film may be bigger in scope than anyone has previously suspected.

The film stars Nicolas Cage as an ordinary guy who becomes obsessed with a code, locked away in a time capsule for 50 years, that has accurately predicted the dates, times and death tolls of every major catastrophe on Earth in that time. With some MAJOR disasters still to come, Cage must battle to figure out where and when they will strike, and try to stop them without anyone chucking him in the funny bin. But is there enough time, and how can one man stop something which is not only pre-ordained but cataclysmic?

We’re big fans of Proyas here at Empire, and have been looking forward to this film. The footage unveiled at Comic-Con and our very own Movie-Con was creepy and low-key, though, and didn’t suggest anything on the scale of the movie’s poster, which shows Earth disintegrating from the South Pole up, with numbers spilling out of the resulting molten mess. It’s a lovely spin on the normally well-worn practice of using an imperilled Earth as a USP on posters, while the tagline, ‘What happens when the numbers run out?’ is also very cool and cryptic.

Of course, there’s always the chance that the image could be just that – a cool image which has nothing to do with where the film is ultimately headed (we're looking at you, Reign of Fire). But, frankly, we now can’t wait to find out.
