You don’t need to be world-famous detective Benoit Blanc to work out that Knives Out has become a huge hit. Rian Johnson’s original contemporary whodunnit is a massive box office success, making nearly $250 million worldwide off a $40 million budget – a victory for non-franchise filmmaking, and more importantly for audiences who have been treated to a tightly-scripted, hugely entertaining murder mystery. If the film left you hoping to see more cases investigated by Daniel Craig’s drawling Blanc, you’re in luck – Johnson seems to be cooking up a new plot for him to solve.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the filmmaker claimed that he is developing a second Benoit Blanc film, and indicated that it could even go into production in the next year or so. And Johnson’s longtime producer Ram Bergman reportedly said that Craig would, of course, be back. “Daniel had so much doing it, and he wants to do more,” he told THR.

Despite Johnson’s plans, the film doesn’t officially have the greenlight for a sequel yet – but considering that growing box office figure, it’s hard to imagine Lionsgate turning down the opportunity. Stay tuned for more official word on Knives Out 2, and in the meantime keep practising your own Benoit Blanc accent.
