Knight Rides Again

It's 1982 and you've just finished construction of a fake swishing light for the front of your bicycle. No longer a simple Raleigh Grifter, it is now a crime-fighting machine and you are its heroic driver, completely oblivious to the strange looks garnered as you shout earnest commands into your digital watch for it to 'pick you up' outside the newsagent. Every child wanted to be Michael Knight A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist. Well, at least according to the gravely voice-over that accompanied the opening credits of cult 80s series, Knight Rider. To the more cynical nine-year-old, however, what we had was an hour of shamelessly stupid fun as the mulletted vigilante in a blouson leather jacket cavorted around stopping ne'er-do-wells with his camp, talking Trans Am in tow. However you remember Knight Rider, it can only be fondly and, in a stroke of luck for fans everywhere, the Knight Industries 2000 is being resurrected for a big screen Knight Rider revival. Happily though, you need little fear of an aging, post-Baywatch Hasselhoff jogging breathlessly after a gang of street thugs. While he will have input into this souped-up cinematic incarnation of the series and is expected to take an onscreen role, Hasselhoff will likely be abdicating KITT's diriving seat to let a more spry and youthful driver take the wheel. A script has yet to be completed, but with any luck the film won't be taking notes from any of the ropey spin-off TV movies or the remarkably ill-conceived Team Knight Rider series - featuring no less than five talking cars, none of which were a patch on the original.
