Aside from Henry Cavill, who's a done deal as the Man of Steel, the cast announcements lately for Zack Snyder's Superman don't actually amount to much more than reports of the wish list inside the Sucker Punch director's head. Kevin Costner is in the frame for Pa Kent, but hasn't signed anything yet. And the same now goes for Viggo Mortensen, who's Snyder's favourite to fill the leather trews of General Zod{
Talks haven't even started yet, and the line is that Mortensen is a "person of interest" to the production, which kind of makes Warners' sound like they want to arrest him rather than employ him. He might not even be available to take the gig, since he's currently negotiating turning out for Snow White and the Huntsman, although there's always the possibility that Universal and Warners might be able to arrange a schedule that allows Mortensen to do both.
As casting news then, it's distinctly sketchy, but it does have the added cache of being the first time we've heard anything remotely solid to indicate that Zod is actually the antagonist that Snyder and Christopher Nolan have been cooking up. Much fan rumour and finger-crossing has surrounded the idea that the evil Kryptonian, played by Terence Stamp in Superman II, might appear, despite Snyder going on record to deny it. Warners have to date confirmed nothing, but earlier reports that one of the three female roles also under consideration was that of Zod-henchwoman Ursa, do rather fit with today's rumblings.
So do we believe this or think it's nonsense? And do we approve, both of Zod's potential presence, and of Mortensen possibly playing him? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
