It’s been a couple of years since Spooks (known to American audiences as MI-5) went off the air. Now the spies are set to return, this time on the big screen, with word that Kit Harington, Jennifer Ehle and Peter Firth are all signed up to star in **Spooks: The Greater Good{ =nofollow}.

Written by show veterans Jonathan Brackley and Sam Vincent, and overseen by originating director Bharat Nalluri, the film will see heroes old and new take over a rundown hotel in the South of France and deal with all sorts of comic characters as they…

Kidding! In fact, Agent Will Crombie (Harington), a former protégé of Firth’s Harry Pearce, is investigating how a terrorist escaped from custody during a routine handover, against the ticking clock of an imminent terror attack on London. Ehle is on as Dame Geraldine Maltby, the head of MI5. While we're sure Harington will be a draw for some, we’re particularly glad to see Harry back – it wouldn’t be Spooks without him.

"With Spooks: The Greater Good we’ve set out to make a gripping, cinematic, contemporary spy thriller – one that builds on the history of the show and its legacy of questioning the world around us, but which also delivers as a stand-alone film for a new, global audience," says Shine Pictures’ Stephen Garrett. Altitude film is offering the rights at the American Film Market and shooting is set for early next year.

And to the best of our knowledge, no, the film has nothing to do with this lot{ =nofollow}.
