Weddings are clearly a big trend in comedies this year – though we doubt that has anything to do with the big affair that happened last week. The latest planned pic to brush off its suit and start sending out invitations is Bachelorette**, which will star Kirsten Dunst, Lizzy Caplan, Adam Scott and Casey Wilson.
The film is being backed by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez company and is plucked from the brain-garden of writer/director Leslye Headland. Her tale originated as a play and follows three best friends asked to act as bridesmaids at the wedding of a woman (former SNL performer Wilson) they used to call “Pigface” behind her back. Turns out she’s got her own reasons for inviting them to be in the wedding party…
Dunst will play one of the friends, a sharp type who can either be your best pal or your worst enemy. Caplan, on the other hand, is described as a sex goddess with the brain of a Larry David type, according to the Hollywood Reporter, which fits perfectly with her typically laconic style.
And for anyone who misses brilliant-but-cancelled US TV comedy Party Down, the chance to see Caplan sharing screen time with Adam Scott (who will play her former high school crush) is one that should have you itching to see this one made.
Headland doesn’t have much in the way of film experience, but she’s an accomplished playwright who hopped over to the small screen to work on another much missed TV show, Terriers. Ferrell and McKay are drumming up some funding for the film now as well as tracking down an actress to play the third best friend character. Oh, and the title’s likely to change before it hits our screens…
