While the level of Kingsman: The Secret Service’s success ($400 million plus at the global box office) may have even taken 20th Century Fox by surprise, it’s not so shocking for director Matthew Vaughn, who had hoped it might do well so that he can launch a sequel. The Wrap reports that Fox has now put the new film into development.

While there is no official announcement to confirm things, Vaughn hasn’t been shy about talking up his desire to make another film, spilling plenty of beans about it to us in Empire's Kingsman spoiler podcast, which you can find at the bottom of the page.

Of course, any discussion of a sequel naturally comes with a Spoiler Warning, so consider yourself suitably advised if you haven’t watched the first movie.

Yes, the death of Colin Firth’s Harry Hart in the original means his presence in the sequel would likely have to be via some trickery, or special gadget, though there’s a also a chance we’ll see more of Harry in flashback. Taron Egerton’s Eggsy will be the focus, having finally bloomed into a fully-fledged Kingsman by the time the credits rolled.

However it works out, we’ll likely have to wait a while since there’s no release date set yet and Vaughn has a compile his to-do list. He’s in talks to handle a new **Flash Gordon for the studio and is still developing comic-book adaptation **The Golden Age. Given his feelings towards the Kingsman world, we wouldn’t be surprised if he comes back for more, even if it means handing directing chores off to someone else, à la Kick-Ass 2.
