2014's Kingsman: The Secret Service had many things going for it, but despite the presence of Sophie Cookson's Roxy and Sofia Boutella's Gazelle, lots of good roles for women were not really among them. The sequel is aiming to address that, with Julianne Moore in talks to play the villain.
Matthew Vaughn is once again directing the film, which will follow the further adventures of Gary "Eggsy" Unwin (Taron Egerton), the most unlikely recruit for gentlemanly boutique secret agency the Kingsmen, yet who turned out to be one of their greatest assets... With a little help from Colin Firth's Harry Hart, who isn't returning for the sequel.
Egerton has said previously that the new movie will see Eggsy travelling to new places as he sorts out other problems on the world stage, and if she does make a deal, Moore would be the main antagonist for the young agent. But that will depend on her schedule – the actress is as ever in demand, and is trying to figure out which jobs she'll take.
Vaughn and regular collaborator Jane Goldman have been working on the script and are looking at starting pre-production in May then rolling the cameras in the summer. The movie already has a June 16, 2017 release date pencilled in.
