One of the films to emerge with strong awards buzz from this year’s Toronto International Film Festival was the latest in a line of inspirational true stories. Starring Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter and Geoffrey Rush, The King’s Speech has just put its first trailer online at Yahoo and you can watch it below.

**Speech **follows the real-life tale of King George VI (AKA our current Queen’s father), who reluctantly assumed the throne after his brother Edward abdicated. Unprepared for public life, among his biggest challenges was giving big speeches, since he suffered from a strong stammer.

His wife, Queen Elizabeth (AKA the Queen Mother), played by Carter, brings in a variety of speech therapists to try to help him, but to no avail until Lionel Logue (Rush), an unorthodox man with methods to match, arrives and gives George the courage he needs to succeed. Which is handy, since World War Two is kicking off and Britain was looking to its king to be a leader.

Firth and Rush are being talked about as likely Best Actor/Best Supporting Actor contenders, with the film nabbing plenty of chatter as a Best Picture possibility after winning the Audience Award in Toronto.

Take a look at the trailer above and see if you agree. The King’s Speech will make its entrance to our cinemas on January 7.
