King-Size Party

After piling onstage in their hundreds to receive award after award, the Lord of the Rings crowd are now engaging in some well-deserved partying down. The Return of the One Party is the after party of choice today, as the night's big winners celebrate their clean sweep alongside their legion of fans. Appropriately enough, therefore, the party is happening at the Hollywood American Legion Hall. The "Egyptian Revival-Moroccan Deco" landmark building plays host to a, well, host of orcs, elves and the creative geniuses behind the whole thing. "I thought we'd win something," said the godlike genius some call Peter Jackson. "With eleven nominations it would have been a bugger not to have won anything at all. There were moments of absolute joy when the crew were winning; it was amazing, but it's excruciating because best director and best film are the last awards. It takes a hell of a long time to get to those." No one could doubt that Jackson was taking the occasion seriously - the famously barefoot director actually wore shoes for the night.
