The attempt to make a stand-alone Flash movie has been a struggle of seemingly endless development, the project handed off between directors and writers with no clear vision. Finally, with It director Andy Muschietti aboard, it is actually gearing up to shoot and Kiersey Clemons is officially back as Iris West.

Clemons was actually cast in the role back in 2016 when the film was first announced, and shot scenes as the character – in the comics she's a crusading journalist and old family friend of Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) who becomes his girlfriend/wife/fellow crime-fighter – for Justice League. Those were cut by Zack Snyder before he left the project, but he's reinstated them for his four-hour cut, which will now know will be available in the UK on 18 March.

Alongside Clemons and Miller, the untitled Flash film will feature Sasha Calle as Supergirl, with Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck portraying their different versions of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Also likely to be involved? Billy Crudup, cast around the same time as Clemons to be Barry's father, who actually made it to the final cut of League.

Muschietti will start the cameras cranking next month in London, with a script by Christina Hodson. Warner Bros. wants the movie in cinemas (boy, it feels good and hopeful to say that with more confidence) in November 2022.
