Is Jack Bauer headed to the other side of the law? Looks like it, as Keifer Sutherland has joined the cast of heist thriller Sleight of Hand.

Sutherland is just one name in an eclectic ensemble that also includes Gerard Depardieu, Thomas Jane, Til Schweiger, Jon Lovitz, Johnny Hallyday and Eric Cantona.

Brad Mirman is behind the camera for the caper, which follows what happens when a group of small-time criminals in Paris inadvertently gain possession of a rare gold coin that belongs to a notorious French gangster. There’s no word on which of them is playing the big crook, but our Francs* are on Depardieu. The movie starts shooting in July.

And, yes, the rights to the film are indeed being sold during the Cannes Film Festival. How did you guess? Is it because half the announcements made in the last week have all been tied to the production companies trying to flog new movies at the Film Market?

Sutherland at least should be around to glad-hand a few likely investors – he appears in Lars von Trier’s new drama, Melancholia, which is getting its world premiere at the fest.
