No stranger to running around trying to catch people he suspects have done bad things, Kiefer Sutherland has locked in one of the key lead roles for a new adaptation of The Fugitive.

The concept was originally spawned in the 1960s series on US telly, which saw Dr. Richard Kimble trying to clear his name and find the true killer of his wife. Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones starred in the big-budget 1990s movie version, which upped the stakes, and saw a spin-off in the shape of US Marshals.

This latest crack at the idea will arrive via the Quibi service, the title representing "quick bites", or short-length episode shows and other projects designed to be watched on phones by those with little time.

Nick Santora has come up with a new spin on the story, which changes things up again. To whit: When a bomb rips through the Los Angeles subway train he’s riding on, blue-collar Mike Ferro (Boyd Holbrook) just wants to make sure his wife, Allison, and 10-year-old daughter, Pearl, are safe. But the faulty evidence on the ground and “tweet-now, confirm-later” journalism paint a nightmarish picture: it looks to all the world that Mike was responsible for the heinous act. Wrongfully—and very publicly—accused, Mike must prove his innocence by uncovering the real perpetrator, before the legendary cop Detective Clay Bryce (Sutherland) heading the investigation can apprehend him.

Stephen Hopkins, who has experience barking orders to Sutherland through megaphones on 24, will direct the series, though there's no specific date for it to launch yet. The Quibi service itself is aiming to arrive next April.
