Reports of the 24 movie's death have been greatly exaggerated according to Kiefer Sutherland (like what we suggested). In a short clip courtesy of Extra, Sutherland says that the big-screen 24 will go ahead later this year{
The story a couple of weeks ago was that the production was right back to the drawing board, following the rejection of a screenplay by Billy Ray (Flightplan, State of Play). But those shenanigans are par for the course, according to the optimistic Sutherland. Hell, he's taken on Mexican drug cartels, and terrorists with biological and nuclear weapons: movie studio politics ain't nuthin'.
The script flux will more than likely continue "until the day we start shooting," he explains, "and probably from that point forward too. It’s a very difficult thing to take something that you’ve done for eight years and almost 200 episodes, and try and find a story that’s going to be unique and yet also service the history of the show. That's to be expected."
Sadly, he makes no mention of action guru Tony Scott, with whom he was reportedly having 24-based talks not so long ago, but Sutherland seems confident that shooting, in all senses, will be underway by this time next year at the latest. Watch this space for developments...
