Despite hopes that she would appear in all three of Lars Von Trier's USA films, recent scheduling conflicts have today forced Nicole Kidman to pull out of Manderlay, the second film in the series. 'We and she would love for her to do it,' Von Trier's producer told Variety, 'but we simply couldn't make it work.' Kidman had originally confirmed her commitment to the project following some hefty prompting by Von Trier at this year's Cannes Film Festival. 'Lars, you know there's no doubt I will,' said Kidman after he asked her at a press conference to 'say "Lars, I'm going to star in your pictures, no matter what it will cost"'. Clearly all that cajoling hasn't paid off, and Von Trier is now searching for two different actresses to take on the role of Grace played by Kidman in Dogville. 'We just want a good actress, wherever she's from,' the producer explains. 'When we started out with Nicole, she was not such a big movie star as she has now become.'
