Andy and Lana Wachowski are remaining typically discreet about their next opus, the sci-fi thriller Jupiter Ascending. While the specific details of the plot are under wraps though, we do at least know something about the cast. Sean Bean, Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, Eddie Redmayne and Douglas Booth are already in place, and they'll now be joined by Australian actor Kick Gurry.
The name might not be familiar to you as yet, but he's racked up quite an impressive CV on the quiet. He's worked with Terrence Malick (an uncredited small role in The Thin Red Line), David Mamet (Spartan) and Alex Proyas (Garage), and was in Gregor Jordan's excellent Buffalo Soldiers with Joaquin Phoenix. He'll next be seen in Doug Liman's All You Need Is Kill, and he's worked with the Wachowskis previously too, as Sparky in their idiosyncratic Speed Racer. So that can't have hurt his chances for redeployment.
The little we know of Jupiter Ascending's story so far involves a far-flung future in which humanity is no longer a dominant species. Nevertheless, the Queen of the Universe somehow comes to the conclusion that lowly prole Mila Kunis is a threat to her dominance and that an assassination is in order. Presumably all does not go according to that plan.
Production has apparently already started in London, and the film currently has a release date of July 25 next year.
