Though it might appear as though Kevin Smith spends all his time on Twitter or recording podcasts, the ever-productive filmmaker/raconteur always seems to find the time to do other things. In this case the time was – apparently, unless it was an attempt at stoner humour – 4:20am on Friday morning. The thing? Starting work writing **Clerks III.
Smith announced in December that with hockey story Hit Somebody finally repurposed as a TV miniseries due to its hefty length, he now wanted to make the third Clerks outing as his cinematic swansong. Or, as he wrote on Twitter, “I'm goin' out like I came in: devoid of talent AND color! #FullCircle son!”
Taking to Facebook on Friday, he posted a photo of the title page for Clerks III, along with the message, “20 years ago today, we started shooting Clerks. 20 years later, with no plan or provocation, I jumped out of bed at 4:20 this morning and started writing Clerks III. It's been like hanging out with old friends. And after 2 hours of tapping the keys and giggling, I have come to a conclusion...** Clerks III **will be the best film I'll ever make.”
Of course, while he can probably count on most of the cast returning, he still has to convince Jeff Anderson to sign on as Randall. But he came back for the second film. And that had a donkey show joke in it.
Smith, meanwhile, is also partly behind the new Jay and Silent Bob cartoon film, which has a trailer out now…
