While the focus of any future for the He-Man stories has been on the big screen until now, there was a surprise this weekend at Power-Con, a convention dedicated to all things He-Man and She-Ra, as Mattel announced that Clerks**** and Red State director Kevin Smith would be working on a new He-Man series for Netflix called Masters Of The Universe: Revelation.
This is the first announcement about the new series, and all that has been let slip so far is that it'll pick up where the 1980s animated series left off, unlike the more recent Netflix reboot She-Ra And The Princesses Of Power. It'll focus on unresolved storylines and Powerhouse Animation, which worked on the Castlevania series, will be providing the footage, with Smith acting as show-runner and journalist-turned-TV writer Marc Bernardin working alongside him.
"I’m Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull, but also their entire Universe," Smith says in a press release. "In Revelation, we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor! Brought to life with the most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame, this is the Masters Of The Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!"
