It has apparently been a struggle finding someone to host the Oscars this year – this piece in The Hollywood Reporter outlined how it's more recently seen as a poisoned chalice that stars and personalities turned down or refuse to shoulder more than twice. But someone has agreed to take it on, with Kevin Hart writing on his Instagram page that he's got the gig.
"I am so happy to say that the day has come for me to host the Oscars," he says on the post. I am blown away simply because this has been a goal on my list for a long time..." Hart, the energetic stand-up and movie star who has appeared in the likes of the Ride Along movies, Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle, Central Intelligence and this year's Night School seems like he could fit well into the hosting job, and has some experience presenting awards shows with the 2016 MTV Movie Awards.
Mostly what we'll be watching for is a comedy bit (or few) with Dwayne Johnson, his friend, occasional co-star and comedy feud partner in crime. The Oscar ceremony itself will air on 24 February next year.
