He's the new Jim Belushi. Sort of.

Kevin Hart Joins About Last Night...

Things have been somewhat quiet on the About Last Night… remake front since the most recent update about the project, with Easy A director Will Gluck stepping in to act as producer in January 2011. But it appears that casting is well under way now, with Kevin Hart the first person to sign on.

About Last Night... is of course, Ed Zwick’s cutting comedy from 1986, which adapted David Mamet’s play Sexual Perversity In Chicago into a story staffed by members of the Brat Pack. Danny (Rob Lowe) and Debbie (Demi Moore), are a couple who meet in the yuppie-tastic ‘80s and, despite pressure from best pals Bernie (Jim Belushi) and Joan (Elizabeth Perkins), fall for each other and try to make it work. Cue love montages, cute exchanges and then fights, splits and recriminations.

Leslye Headland is in charge of updating the script, but despite Gluck wearing the producer’s hat, he hasn’t decided to direct the new film. We now know that Hart will be taking on Belushi’s role, Bernie.

Hart, who got his start as a stand-up, has been acting regularly since 2001. This year alone he’s already appeared on our screens in Think Like A Man and The Five-Year Engagement. He’s lined up the lead role in sports biopic **The Impossible Dream **and a starring part alongside Kevin James in the new comedy Valet Guys to keep him busy through the next few months.
