Kevin Hart Considering Scrooged Remake

Regular listeners to the Empire Podcast know that our policy for upcoming films is a generally positive "everything is Christmas Eve" idea, of trying not to be overly judgmental before we see them. And we're generally not fans of hating on remakes just because they're remakes. And then we hear Kevin Hart is developing a new take on Scrooged, and that concept is stretched to near-breaking point.

Yet it's true: Paramount and the actor's Hartbeat Productions company are looking for a writer to tackle the script for a new version of the 1988 Christmas film that starred Bill Murray, and was directed by Richard Donner. It spun Dickens' A Christmas Carol into the then-contemporary tale of selfish TV executive Frank Cross, who is visited by ghosts who show him the error of his ways in the past, present and potential future. While it might not be the greatest film ever made, it's a hell of a lot of fun and features some Prime Murray. We'd just hope that Hart – who could end up starring – finds another new twist on the idea.

Hart's on screen – his voice, at least – in The Secret Life Of Pets 2 and will be back for the Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle sequel, slated for a 13 December release.
