Kevin Costner On For McFarland

Like a human homing pigeon, Kevin Costner seems drawn back to the sports genre no matter how many other movies he makes. He’s set to star in yet another, locking down a deal for the lead in McFarland for Disney.

Niki Caro is on to direct the film, which will be taken from a real-life story. Costner’s set to play a high school coach living in a California town that largely boasts a Hispanic population.

Look to expand the school’s sports success, he creates a track team that has to overcome social and physical hurdles to become champions during the 1980s.

Disney has been after Costner to star in this one for a while, kicking off negotiations last summer, but he’s only just made a deal. It’s a busy time for the actor: he’s on our screens with Man Of Ste****el and will crop up in Jack Ryan (out December 26). He’s worked on American football pic Draft Day and action thriller Three Days To Kill and is shooting Black And White alongside Octavia Spencer.
