You can’t say he wasn’t thorough: after spending ages looking at casting tapes in an attempt to find an unknown to play female lead Broomhilda in Django Unchained, director Quentin Tarantino has finally come back around to the woman he wanted all along: Kerry Washington.
The actress is now in negotiations for the role of Django (Jamie Foxx)’s wife in the film. It’s her capture by a variety of nasty types that spurs our hero to train up as a bounty hunter and track her down so that they can be reunited. The final confrontation takes place at the Candyland ranch owned by the manipulative Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio).
As well as Foxx, Washington and DiCaprio, Django Unchained will star Christoph Waltz, Samuel L Jackson, Kurt Russell, Tom Savini, Don Johnson, Gerald McRaney and, assuming he sorts out scheduling issues, Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Tarantino is planning to start shooting in January.
Washington will next be seen in The Details, followed by We The Peeples (yes, that's the correct way to spell it) and A Thousand Words.
