As if one outrageous based-on-truth story wasn't enough for a news cycle, there is word on another that is locking down its cast. Elizabeth Banks has been developing a movie called Cocaine Bear and has now landed Keri Russell, Ray Liotta, Alden Ehrenreich, O’Shea Jackson and Jesse Tyler Ferguson to star.
This will be based on a truth-stranger-than-fiction-style event that happened in Georgia in 1985 that involved a bear (obviously), some cocaine (naturally), a crooked narcotics officer, some dead people and other assorted criminals (er...). You can find a lot more about the event here.
Quite what the actual film might be remains to be seen – Banks and writer Jimmy Warden are keeping the story quiet for now, but it has the potential to be a Coen-esque tale of odd crime, albeit one that features the sad death of a bear.
Still, Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Aditya Sood are producing the film, with Universal opening its wallet to make it and a shoot set to start this August in Ireland.
