With cine-interest in the Bee Gees upped by several levels thanks to Frank Marshall's recent documentary How Can You Mend A Broken Heart, there is fresh movement on the biopic that Paramount has been putting together. Kenneth Branagh has now made a deal to sit in the director's chair.
Ben Elton is writing the script for the film, which will follow the humble beginnings of brothers Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb into their journey to pop superstardom. Following their first No. 1 hit “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart,” the Bee Gees went on to write and perform hundreds of popular songs and worked on the soundtrack for Saturday Night Fever.
How the film will tell that story - be it in more straightforward Bohemian Rhapsody fashion or whimsical, musical Rocketman style – remains to be seen, but it's another challenging effort for Branagh. He's back both in front of and behind the camera for Death On The Nile, due out on 17 September.
