After years spent playing the intellectual snob and frequent disaster-magnet Frasier Crane, Kelsey Grammer is obviously looking for work that gets him far away from tossed salads and scrambled eggs. He took a step with tough mayor Tom Kane in cable series Boss and a bigger leap to join the cast of **Transformers: Age Of Extinction. Now he’s going even further, signing on to the cast of **The Expendables 3.

Yes, the man who used to tell Seattle he was listening will be talking to Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews and the rest of the tough-nut gang as Bonaparte, a former mercenary who helps out the heroes. So it's more along the lines of his 30 Rock persona than the erudite roles for which he's best known. Sadly for fans of Nicolas Cage, Grammer’s gain is the Cage man’s loss, as Bonaparte was originally earmarked for the king of the action gurn. Perhaps Cage will find a way in for Expendables 4

Regardless, Grammer joins a cast that also includes Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mel Gibson, Ronda Rousey, Randy Couture, Victor Ortiz, Robert Davi and Glen Powell. Patrick Hughes is calling the shots right now in Bulgaria, and The Expendables 3 will be out on August 15 next year.
