**Twilight's muscle-bound highschool vampire **Kellan Lutz has dramatically broken the mould by entering negotiations to play, er, a popular school jock in horror remake A Nightmare On Elm Street.

Lutz would join other hot and thoroughly expendable young cast members Thomas "Sarah Connor Chronicles" Dekker, Kyle Gallner (upcoming in Jennifer's Body) and Rooney Mara to head-off Freddie Krueger, who will be played by Watchmen's Jackie Earle Haley.

The film, which will be directed by music video impressario Samuel Bayer, has been co-written by original creator Wes Craven and web film scriptsmith Eric Heisserer, so we should be in for flashy (or should that be slashy) cuts and shortened dialogue requiring only minimal bursts of concentration.

Gallner will play Quentin, a revival of the role played by Johnny Depp in the original. Dekker, like Lutz, will play an alpha male who is attempting to reunite with his highschool girlfriend, while Mara is down to play the bored girl who is off to the big city after graduation.

A Nightmare On Elm Street which will be filmed in Chicago, is due to start shooting May 5, but Lutz's role will be shot later in the proceedings to avoid a scheduling clash with his work on Twilight sequel New Moon.
