Much like Mark Twain, Gene Roddenberry's franchise has found rumours surrounding its demise somewhat overstated. Listen carefully and you can hear the cheers as Trekkie's across the Internet take up the call to arms, don their prosthetic face parts and alien attire for the prophesised arrival of Star Trek XI. Talking to Dreamwatch magazine, Rick Berman proudly declared: "I am involved in the very early stages of what could be the next Star Trek movie. It's something I will be producing with two other producers." What? Did the cast lie to us when they swore on the lives of their ancestors that they'd never return? Well, no. The eleventh instalment will not involve Picard and his crew, nor will it wheel a portly Captain Kirk out of retirement for more staccato anti-Klingon diatribes, rather it will, as rumours have often hinted, take the form of a prequel.
