Nicolas Winding Refn already has Elle Fanning and Abbey Lee set for the nightmarish charms of his new horror The Neon Demon. He’s bolstering the ensemble with someone new to his output and a Drive veteran, as Keanu Reeves and Christina Hendricks have joined the cast.

Jena Malone and Bella Heathcote are also on board for the film, which sees Fanning as a young woman in Los Angeles who attempts to conquer the modelling world, only to be faced with a terrifying force of beauty and death. And that’s literally all that has been revealed about the plot so far, with Refn typically circumspect about his plans. He has said this about the project though: “One morning I woke and realised I was both surrounded and dominated by women. Strangely, a sudden urge was planted in me to make a horror film about vicious beauty.”

With a script by the director and Mary Laws, the film should start shooting at the end of March. Reeves, who has seen his career boosted by action thriller John Wick (which finally, officially, arrives here on April 10), will be seen in Eli Roth’s **Knock Knock **and crime thriller Daughter Of God. Hendricks, meanwhile, crops up in Drive cohort Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut Lost River (out April 24) and the Gillian Flynn adaptation Dark Places.
