Back in March, we reported that Randall Park and Ali Wong, the lead and occasional guest star of US sitcom Fresh Off The Boat, were putting together a film for Netflix that, at the time, had no title. Now we know that it'll be called Always Be My Maybe and will also feature the likes of Keanu Reeves, Daniel Dae Kim, Charlyne Yi and Karan Soni.
Always Be My Maybe will tell the story of childhood sweethearts who have a falling out and don't talk for 15 years. They reconnect as adults when Sasha (Wong), a celebrity chef preparing to open a restaurant in San Francisco, runs into Marcus (Park) and struggling musician who lives at home and works for his dad. And they also realise that the old sparks are still there...
Nahnatchka Khan, who created Fresh Off The Boat for TV and sometimes directs episodes, is gearing up to direct the script, which comes from Wong, Park and Michael Golamco. While we don't yet know how Reeves, Kim and the others will fit into the story, they'll be sharing the screen with the likes of Michelle Buteau, Vivian Bang, James Saito, Lyrics Born and Susan Park. No set date has been announced for the film, but we can expect it to arrive on the streaming service next year.
