The cast for X-Men-derived TV pilot Legion already boasts the eclectic likes of Empire spirit animal Dan Stevens, Aubrey Plaza and Jean Smart. Now one more familiar face is joining the team as actor, writer and director Katie Aselton is aboard.
Fargo show-runner Noah Hawley is overseeing the show, which despite sharing comic book DNA with the 20th Century Fox mutant movies, won't (initially at least) offer any crossover with them. Legion, adapted from the character first introduced in Marvel's New Mutants in 1985, focuses on David Haller (Stevens). Long dealing with mental illness, he’s been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years until a strange encounter with another patient leads him to think that maybe the voices and strange visions he experiences might be more real than he or anyone else thought.
Aselton will be his practical, no-nonsense sister Amy, who tries to stay positive despite years of her brother's problems. Legion is currently gearing up to start shooting this month and will be hoping that US network FX will take it to series at some point later this year or early next. As for Aselton, she's just finished several years on another FX show, The League, and is staying with TV for a couple of other roles, including appearances on HBO's Togetherness and Hulu series Casual.
