Tammy may not have been the most enjoyable film, but Kathy Bates clearly enjoyed working alongside Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone. She’s agreed to join the cast of the pair’s latest comedy, **Michelle Darnell{ =nofollow}.

Falcone will once more handle the directing chores for the film, which he co-wrote with McCarthy and Steve Mallory based on an idea by the actress. McCarthy will play the title character, a former big shot businesswoman whose career and reputation are damaged when she’s sent to prison for insider trading. Upon her release, she attempts to rebrand herself as a loveable heroine. But not everyone she cheated and hurt is ready to forgive her.

Bates is set to play the title character’s tough, rich, eccentric mentor, the woman that Michelle most wants to emulate. Peter Dinklage joined the film last week as her main antagonist. With Universal stumping up the dollars to make the movie, it’ll arrive here on May 6 next year. Bates has been enjoying an award-winning run on US TV drama American Horror Story, and will next be seen on film in comedy drama The Great Gilly Hopkins.
