Like Christmas shoppers who’ve overdone it at Tesco, you might think that _Hurt Locker** combo Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal_would have their hands full, since they’re already getting ready to make organized crime pic Triple Frontier. But even though thatjust locked down Tom Hanks and has a shoot date pencilled in for later in 2011, the pair is looking at getting something else completed before that, according to Variety.
There’s no script in place yet, but Bigelow and Boal are apparently looking to go guerrilla and film something fast and loose, albeit with studio backing. Representatives for the project are shopping it around various companies looking to drum up some funding, which, if they keep to the Hurt Locker model, will need to be around $10 million.
And they’re keeping the concept close to their chests for now, only letting slip that it’s based on a true story published in the press and that focuses on black ops. So we doubt it’s a biopic of Wikileaks chief Julian Assange, even though that would be so topical it hurts.
But don’t worry about Triple Frontier – that’s still definitely on the books, and likely to kick off filming in autumn next year. It’s simply that the film is a much bigger proposition and is taking longer to put together, so, rather than sitting on the laurels that the Locker provided, Bigelow and Boal have decided that what they really want is another movie to think about. That’s passion, folks. Or insanity. Sometimes the line is really thin…
