While he would probably prefer to keep every element under wraps until the film finally opens, even Woody Allen has to bow to the pressures of making sure people actually come to see his work. So the new trailer for Wonder Wheel actually offers up some idea of the plot.
The likes of Kate Winslet, Jim Belushi, Justin Timberlake and Juno Temple star in a 1950s-set story that takes place around Colney Island, home to the titular attraction.
Ginny (Winslet), is an emotionally volatile former actress now working as a waitress in a clam house; Humpty (Belushi is her rough-hewn carousel operator husband. Then there's Mickey (Timberlake), a handsome young lifeguard who dreams of becoming a playwright. Their lives are thrown into chaos when Carolina (Temple), Humpty’s long-estranged daughter, arrives asking for sanctuary as she's fleeing in terror from the gangster family she married into.
It all sets the scene for a tale of passion, violence, betrayal and probably some candy floss. But mostly the first three elements. The film will be out in US cinemas on 1 December but has yet to announce a UK date.
