In addition to being one of the best parts of the current Saturday Night Live cast, Kate McKinnon has been stealing scenes in movies such as the new Ghostbusters and this week's Office Christmas Party. She's now landed a starring role, and will head up The Lunch Witch.
Angry Birds co-director Clay Kaytis is making his live-action debut with the new movie, which will adapt Deb Lucke's novel. McKinnon will be Grunhilda, the latest in a long line of witches who have been known for generations as brewing up terrible spells. But in our modern times, no one believes in magic any more, she she's forced to take a job as a lunch lady in an American school. She delights in scaring the kids, at least until she meets a girl named Madison and forges an unlikely friendship. She's tempted to help Madison out with her issues at school and home, but being helpful goes against her views and those of her family...
The Lunch Witch is at an early stage and still developing. As we mentioned, you can see McKinnon in Office Christmas Party, which is in UK cinemas now. She'll also be seen in Rock That Body, out on 16 June next year.
