What do we know about Inception/Dark Knight trilogy cinematographer Wally Pfister’s directorial debut Transcendence? As befits someone who has worked with Chris Nolan and has him as a producer on this, very little. But casting news continues to trickle in, with word today that Kate Mara has joined the film.

She’ll be part of a cast that already includes Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany and Rebecca Hall in the story of... Well, that’s where the mystery continues. There has been talk of a malignant artificial intelligence created by Depp’s character, but nothing official has been announced about the plot yet.

Mara was last seen navigating the dangerous waters of Washington, DC as an ambitious journalist in Netflix series House Of Cards, and in the movies **Ironclad **and 10 Years. This project provides an intriguing casting coincidence as, according to Variety, Hall scored the role that Kate's sister, Dragon Tattoo star Rooney Mara, had been up for.

Pfister is scheduled to start calling the shots next month, aiming for an April 25, 2014 release in the States.
