Break out the family-sized pack of talcum powder, because it looks like Kate Beckinsale will be squeezing back into her Seline catsuit for an Underworld film at some point in the future. Yes, though it appeared as though the franchise was moving away from her story, director/overlord Len Wiseman now says that more fang club-based projects are in development.
Speaking to IGN at this weekend’s New York Comic-Con, Wiseman spilled the news that the Underworld franchise is expanding to include more movies and another, unexpected TV show…
“There's a few things being developed right now,” Wiseman says. “There are some characters who we really liked that will be in a kind of a spin-off like we did with Rise Of The Lycans, then we have another film in the works with Kate as well… And then there’s a television series.”
So far, all that has been officially announced is Underworld: Next Generation, which will star Patrick Stewart Theo James as vampire David, and has Priest’s Cory Goodman writing the script for a planned 2015 shoot.
The Underworld movies might not have enjoyed the best reviews in the world, but there’s certainly a mythology there with plenty of potential to explore, so a TV series seems like a logical extension of the story.
