Kate Beckinsale has had a fair bit of experience with action movies, but they're usually more the straight-faced likes of the Underworld franchise. She's looking for a little more fun from a future project, landing the lead in Jolt.
Tanya Wexler is directing the film, working from a script by Scott Wascha. It follows Lindy (Beckinsale), a badass bouncer with a slightly murderous anger-management problem that she controls with the help of an electrode-lined vest she uses to shock herself back to normalcy whenever she gets homicidal. After the first guy she’s ever fallen for is murdered, she goes on a revenge-fueled rampage to find the killer while the cops pursue her as their chief suspect. It certainly sounds more like Crank than the sort of movies Beckinsale has traditionally made.
"Jolt is a kick-ass and painfully funny script," Wexler tells Deadline. "When I saw that Kate Beckinsale was attached to play the lead, I jumped at the opportunity to make the movie. This is the movie for right now – a revenge-action film for every woman (and man) who wants to turn their inner Thelma & Louise up to 11."
Millennium Media is backing the film, which will be shooting this July in London and Bulgaria. Beckinsale is on TV screens now in Amazon's The Widow.
