Despite it looking as though the Underworld franchise would be moving away from Kate Beckinsale’s killer vamp Selene and focusing on a younger generation, Underworld overlord Len Wiseman dropped word last October that she’d be back for more. And so it has come to pass, with news that Beckinsale is officially aboard a fifth film{
Previous reports have mentioned Underworld: Next Generation as the new movie’s name, though The Hollywood Reporter’s update on Beckinsale’s status doesn’t mention the title. The Divergent franchise’s Theo James is aboard to reprise his role as the vampire David he first played in 2012’s Underworld: Awakening, with an immortal blood oath his contract committing him to another run-around. Priest/The Last Witch Hunter’s Cory Goodman has been working away on the script, but the main plot is being kept under wraps for now. Given how it’s an expansion of the existing Underworld universe, though, expect more vamps vs. werewolves (and possibly humans) action as the search continues for Scott Speedman's missing Michael.
Anna Foerster, who cut her teeth working with Roland Emmerich and others as a cinematographer and second unit director (and who has been carving out a career as a director on shows such as Criminal Minds and Outlander), is set to make her film debut with the movie. It's gearing up to start filming this October in Prague.
Beckinsale, last seen in** Stonehearst Asylum** and Michael Winterbottom’s The Face Of An Angel, will next show up in Absolutely Anything (August 14) and Whit Stillman’s Love & Friendship.
