These days, most films are cast, prepped and shot in the glare of the information world, with every development monitored and discussed. So the idea that a film with some well-known names could be put together and start shooting with barely a blip on the radar is an achievement. But that’s the case with Renee**, starring Kat Dennings, Chad Michael Murray and Rupert Friend.
Then again, this is an indie project, and they’re far more likely to slip in without being noticed. Still the company behind the film has now released a press release about shooting, picked up by The Orlando Sentinel (via The Playlist).
The Renee Project is based on the tough true story of Renee Yohe, who struggled with drug addiction, depression and self-harm and who inspired the creation of the charity group called To Write Love On Her Arms.
Dennings, who we’re always glad to see on screen, is in Florida right now playing Yohe, while Murray is Jamie Tworkowski, the man who started the charity. Director Nathan Frankowski, who rather ominously last made Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed, about the argument for Creationism, is behind this one. There’s no word yet on a release date or a distributor.
