While the film is more focused on its female characters, Nicolas Winding Refn continues to add men in supporting roles for his new horror thriller, The Neon Demon. Karl Glusman is the latest recruit.
Elle Fanning, Abbey Lee, Jena Malone, Christina Hendricks, Keanu Reeves and Bella Heathcote are board for the film, which sees Fanning as a young woman in Los Angeles who attempts to conquer the modelling world, only to be faced with a terrifying force of beauty and death. And that’s literally all that has been revealed about the plot so far, with Refn typically circumspect about his plans. He has said this about the project though: “One morning I woke and realised I was both surrounded and dominated by women. Strangely, a sudden urge was planted in me to make a horror film about vicious beauty.”
With a script by the director and Mary Laws, The Neon Demon will kick off shooting in LA at the end of the month.
Glusman, who has worked more steadily on the stage than the screen, has several films coming up, including Roland Emmerich’s Stonewall and Claire Carré’s sci-fi drama Embers.
