On something of a hot career streak right now thanks to the one-two punch of acclaim for her work in Booksmart and Netflix's Unbelievable, Kaitlyn Dever is lining up a potential new job. She's in talks to co-star in the movie adaptation of award-winning stage show Dear Evan Hansen.
Ben Platt, who originated the title role on stage and scored a Tony for his performance is the all-but guaranteed lead for the film, about Hansen, a high schooler with social anxiety who writes letters to try to help himself. He unintentionally gets caught up in a lie after the family of Connor, a classmate who committed suicide mistakes one of Hansen’s letters for their son’s suicide note. If she makes a deal, Dever will be Zoe, Connor's sister.
Stephen Chbosky is directing the film version, with Steve Levenson (who wrote the musical's book) on script duty. Oscar winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, co-creators of the musical, are overseeing the movie's tunes.
